Description
Newly trained and certified counselors and therapists are always excited about getting out into the work world to use their therapeutic skills and knowledge in helping others. Yet few of us are prepared with the business skills necessary to set up a thriving private counseling practice. Designed for new practitioners or counselors considering going solo, this course will give participants a practical business perspective and some useful tools to add to their professional roles, enhancing their opportunities to build a successful counseling practice.
Through a guided group discussion and exercise process, with input from the instructor and a panel of Santa Clara alumni practitioners, workshop participants will be exposed to such topics for learning and decision making as:
- Developing a vision of your practice – full time, part time; independent or with partners
- Setting up your office and administrative systems
- Managing Resources-- Money, and Time
- Legal and insurance considerations – to protect your practice and benefit your clients
- Marketing your practice for continuity and growth
- Managing your Mind and other Self Care concepts for a private practitioner

Libby Pannwitt
Libby Pannwitt is Principal and Sole Proprietor of The Work•Life Design Group, a career management and life planning counseling practice in San Carlos, CA, providing consultation and coaching services for individuals, partners, groups and corporate teams. In her varied career life, Libby has held management and training positions in large and small companies in a variety of industries including outplacement consulting, telecommunications, financial services, public relations and paperboard packaging. Today in her private practice as a career counselor, she focuses on helping people from diverse professional backgrounds learn how to design and direct their efforts to identify their passions, develop their talents, strengthen their skills, and create the worklife that they want. Libby received her MA in Counseling with honors from Santa Clara University, is a National Certified Counselor, a National Certified Career Counselor and is listed in Who's Who in the Helping Professions.
