Description

This workshop describes an approach to working with clients where problems are thought of as an effect of larger meaning systems rather than as some internal deficit. This thinking tends to be non-pathologizing and empowering. The clinical practice opens space for working collaboratively with the client and promotes a stance of respect and curiosity. This course will introduce students to:

• A historical development of narrative ideas
• An appreciation of meaning from the clients’ story about themselves
• A way of understanding story development away from problems and toward preferences
• Specific practices that flow from a narrative metaphor

Students will learn ways of thinking that can promote a co-researching of possibilities with any client population.

This class qualifies for the Advanced Psychotherapy Certificate program.
