This emphasis has six courses designed for mathematics, science, and environmental studies teachers who are interested in both increasing their content knowledge and developing an interdisciplinary approach to their classroom practice. The emphasis offers candidates a rich and truly interdisciplinary option to further expand their content, pedagogical, and technological knowledge.
Candidates in the STEEM emphasis must take all six courses listed below, and complete the course requirements for the MA degree by selecting courses from the C&I emphasis including EDUC 454–Action Research and EDUC 455-Teacher Research Project as the culminating requirement.
The courses in the STEEM emphasis are:
- EDUC 450—Technology-Enhanced Strategies Effective with Target Populations
- EDUC 465—Advanced Theory and Practice of Science Teaching and Learning
- EDUC 466—Advanced Theory and Practice of Mathematics Teaching and Learning
- EDUC 467—Integrating Language and Literacy into Mathematics Instruction
- EDUC 470—Advanced Theory and Practice of Environmental Education
- EDUC 473—Connecting Science and Mathematics to the Real World
The culminating requirement, as mentioned above, involves a two-course sequence that all MA candidates must take:
- EDUC 454—Action Research
- EDUC 455—Teacher Research Project. EDUC 454 is a prerequisite
