Tom Savage, Ph.D.
Professor
Tom Savage came to Santa Clara University in 2000. He held previous faculty appointments as professor of education and chaired programs at California State University, Fullerton, Texas A&M University and Whitworth College. He also helped develop an innovative and award-winning competency-based teacher education program at Western Washington University. He earned a doctorate at the University of Washington and taught elementary school in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Dr. Savage conducts workshops and performs consulting activities for school districts across the nation in the following specialization areas: classroom management and discipline, social studies education, instructional strategies, and teacher observation and evaluation. He served as a member of the Governor"s Task force on Teacher Appraisal for the Governor of Texas.
Dr. Savage has authored and co-authored several textbooks in education. Those include Teaching Today: An Introduction to Education, Developing Self-control through Management and Discipline, Effective Teaching in Elementary Social Studies, Secondary Education: An Introduction, Rethinking Management for Culturally Diverse Classrooms, and An Instructional Skills Handbook. In addition, he has had a number of articles published in professional journals and has given numerous papers to professional organizations.
