Technology Resource Teacher

A full-time teaching/resource position, focusing on student computer instruction in grades K-4, and teacher support for technology integration in grades 5-8. Focus will shift over a period of years, eventually moving all grades to a technology integration model.

Essential Functions
  • Student Computer Instruction
    • Teach weekly lessons with K-4 classes (two classes per grade), using a mobile laptop lab in the classroom
    • Plan your lessons to teach NETS competencies and build basic technological fluency, integrating core curriculum content where appropriate
    • Communicate with classroom teachers to assess curricular needs and determine appropriate integration opportunities
  • Teacher Technology Integration Support
    • Work collaboratively with individual teachers or groups of teachers to integrate appropriate technology tools in the curriculum, initially focusing primarily on teachers in grades 5-8
    • Use modeling/support strategies to help teachers gain greater efficacy and independence in classroom technology use
    • Provide limited desktop support, including password resets, assistance with basic troubleshooting, and answers to "How do I...?" questions
  • School Technology Planning/Development
    • Serve as a member of the school technology committee
    • Collaborate with school leadership and committee members in the development and evaluation of the next Five-Year Technology Plan
    • Facilitate the school technology integration effort in promoting 21st century teaching and learning skills
    • Disseminate information regarding technology resources, emerging technologies, best practices using technology, and professional development opportunities
    • Examine and recommend technology hardware and software purchases, including reviewing the effectiveness of existing subscription licenses
    • Participate in the development and implementation of special technology workshops for students and staff

Qualifications
  •  K-8 teaching experience required; certification preferred
  • Previous teacher leadership and/or professional development experience preferred
  • Knowledge of pedagogy and teaching methodologies particularly with respect to the integration
  • of technology into the curriculum and instructional program
  • Ability to manage classes and communicate effectively with students and colleagues
  • Familiarity with a variety of instructional technology tools, with the ability to learn new tools and the
  • flexibility to adapt when technology doesn’t work as expected
  • Outgoing personality and enthusiasm for your subject matter

About St. Simon Parish School

St. Simon is a PreK-8 Catholic parish school, serving an enrollment of over 550 students. The student population includes children from parishes throughout Los Altos, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and other nearby cities, as well as students from non-Catholic backgrounds. Current technology infrastructure includes network wiring and wireless access throughout the campus, projectors and document cameras in all classrooms, centralized video broadcasting, and MacBook laptops for faculty. Students in grades 5-8 share MacBook carts in a 2:1 distribution; students in grades K-4 share one class set of netbooks, one class set of iBooks, and small numbers of desktop Macs distributed in classrooms. Available software and services include iWork, iLife, MS Office, Discovery Streaming/Science, netTrekker, BrainPop, and Google Apps for Education.

Overview
The Learning Team at LeapFrog is responsible for the educational quality of content and pedagogy across all product categories including toys, reading, gaming, and online play.   Maintaining and enhancing the high-quality learning design is a core company value, fundamental to our competitive advantage.  The term “learning design” refers to the integration of learning goals, content, and interaction design.  It determines how children use our products and what they are likely to learn.  This Learning Designer position focuses on children 2-6 years, with special emphasis on math and science.  Reports to the Director of Learning.

Responsibilities:

  • Write learning goals and content to align with product interactions for early childhood learning, with special focus on math and science.
  • Advise producers, game designers, product designers, web developers and others on appropriate content, pedagogy and assessment strategies.
  • Review materials and product prototypes and make design recommendations.
  • Collaborate with internal research department and external scholars on assessments of learning processes and outcomes, some grant writing likely.  
  • Maintain a library of learning resources, and external consultants.
  • Stay current with trends in early childhood education; and math/science teaching, learning, and assessment.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years experience teaching and/or designing learning activities in school or informal learning environments (museums, after-school programs, etc.). 
  • Experience with the design and analysis of technology-enhanced learning.
  •  Understanding of cognitive development related to math and science.
  • Knowledgeable of how children learn and develop from infancy through adolescence. 
  • Familiar with traditional and innovative strategies for teaching, learning, and assessment in both formal and informal settings. 
  • Familiar with product development processes a plus
  • Experience planning and conducting workshops
  • Very organized, attention to detail,
  • Graduate degree in Education, the Learning Sciences, or related fields.  PhD or EdD a plus.
