Melissa Gilbert

Gilbert and Smithenry receive NSF Grant

The National Science Foundation (NSF), through the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, has recently awarded Santa Clara University a five-year grant of $750,000. This grant will enable SCU’s Department of Education to offer a total of twenty-four $25,000 scholarships (over three years) to SCU undergraduates to become science or mathematics teachers through the department’s fifth-year teacher credentialing program.

Pedro Hernandez-Ramos

Pedro Hernández-Ramos is Awarded Tenure

In May, University President Paul Locatelli, S.J. announced faculty who have recently been awarded tenure and/or promotion for their remarkable contributions to their students, their respective disciplines, and the university.

One of those receiving tenure and being promoted to the rank of associate professor was Pedro Hernández-Ramos.

Pedro has helped conceive, organize and put on a wide range of events from the international conferences and events (such as the Silicon Valley Challenge Summit to being a panel member and presenter at symposia events (most recently on the politics of Wikipedia). He is currently leading the KnowledeX program for the Center of Science, Technology, and Society.

Dr. Cheryl McElvain Travels

Tuesday, February 19, 2008, the families involved in the After School Tutoring Program called The Bridge met with Professor Francisco Jimenez to share their life stories.

Dr. Cheryl McElvain is the program director who began this tutoring program 1 1/2 years ago along with her husband Larry who is the executive director of Discovery Counseling Center.  The mission of The Bridge program is to connect disconnected, disenfranchised English learners and their parents into a vital learning community.

Ruth Cook Celebrates 25 years at SCU and the 7th Edition of Her Book

Ruth Cook, the Chair of the Department of Education, celebrates 25 years at Santa Clara University.  She recently received copies of her 7th edition of Adapting Early Childhood Curricula for Children with Special Needs.

 

Tim Myers

Professor Tim Myers Excited About His New Books

Tim has an new book that was accepted for publication from Marshall Cavendish Children's publisher called Looking for Luna.  He also has a story called "A Christmas Gift" appearing in Skipping Stones Magazine.

Professor Les Goodchild

Dr. Lester Goodchild Books Publish 3rd Edition

Les recently had his book publish the 3rd edition  He also wrote the overview chapters for its readings, which are spread out through the different parts of the book.
