Elevator Failure Emergency Action

If you are inside of an elevator car during an elevator failure:
  • Remain calm. Elevators have mechanical safety brakes, which will operate in all situations, even during power failures.
  • Use the emergency telephone inside the elevator, which connects directly to Campus Safety.
  • Press the red “Emergency” button located on the elevator control panel inside of the elevator. This will alert other occupants in the building of your situation.
If you are not inside of the elevator and want to report an elevator failure:
  • Contact Campus Safety x4444 or Facilities Department at x4742.
  • Provide the building name and the floor on which the elevator is located.
  • Indicate whether anyone is trapped inside of the elevator.
  • Reassure the person(s) inside of the elevator that help is on the way.
