Evacuation Procedures
Emergency Procedures:
- When alarm sounds (or if notified by emergency personnel), proceed quickly to the nearest exit.
- Exit the building in an orderly manner.
- Report to a designated Emergency Assembly Point.
When entering a new building:
- Familiarize yourself with the evacuation procedures.
- Locate the nearest exit and fire extinguishers.
- Locate the Emergency Assembly Point for your building.
During an emergency:
- Evacuate immediately, upon hearing the fire alarm sounds. Fire Drills are not an exception.
- Exit the building quickly and safely, closing the door behind you.
- NEVER use the ELEVATORS – always use the stairs.
- Help others to evacuate.
- Knock on doors and check bathrooms as you leave the building.
NOTE: It is suggested that people with disabilities prepare for emergencies by learning the locations of exit corridors, stairwells, and their nearest staging areas. Also, inform co-workers, professors, and/or classmates of best methods of assistance during an emergency. Please familiarize yourself with the policy regarding Evacuations for individuals with a disability.
- Report to the designated Emergency Assembly Point for your building.
- Contact the building/safety coordinator to check in, and notify the Coordinator of any areas of immediate danger within the building.
- Do not leave until told to do so by the authorities.
Be alert:
- An alarm may be part of a crime in progress, be alert for suspicious persons or activities.
- Report any vandalism or tampering with the Fire Alarm immediately.
Evacuation Maps
In an effort to increase the safety of the campus community, the University underwent a complete evaluation in regards to fire and life safety needs. One outcome of the evaluations was the creation of new evacuation maps (PDF format).Order by: Location Name or Building Number
