Medical Emergency

All Campus Safety Officers are CPR and First Aid trained, and will provide immediate response to medical emergencies on campus.

Illness or Injury to Students

During the regular academic year, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, students with minor injuries should be referred to the Cowell Student Health Center.

Illness or injury during hours when the Cowell Student Health Center is closed should be reported to Campus Safety. Campus Safety will dispatch Santa Clara Emergency Medical Technician to the scene to provide medical treatment and evaluate what level of further medical care is required.

Serious injury or illness to students that would prevent them form being transported by conventional means to the Cowell Student Health Center should be reported directly to Campus Safety x4444 or by calling 911.

Illness or Injury to Faculty/Staff

Emergency treatment for job-related injury or medical illness may be obtained by contacting Campus Safety x4444. If immediate emergency transportation is not required, Human Resources will arrange transportation via cab service to and from treatment center.

A Report of Injury form must be completed for all incidents of job-related illness and injury – by a direct supervisor. Please contact Human Resources benefits coordinator at 554-4392 for forms and assistance. All incidents must be reported to the Human Resources benefit coordinator and investigated as outlined in the University Injury Illness Prevention Program Handbook.

Illness or Injury to Visitors and Guests

Request emergency medical assistance contact Campus Safety x4444 or 911.

Who do I contact in an emergency?

If the emergency IS life threatening, dial 911. If the emergency is NOT life threatening, contact Campus Safety (408-554-4444).

Emergency Service Requests should be called into Facilities immediately at 408-554-4742 and select Option #1.
