Utility Failure
- Dial x4742 during regular business hours (8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday-Friday) to notify the Facilities Department.
- Dial x4444 Campus Safety, after business hours, on the weekend, or during a holiday.
Examples of utility failure are:
- Loss of electricity and/or electric lighting
- Any problem with natural gas
- Loss of heating, ventilation, or air conditioning
- Plumbing problems, including water leaks, flooding, or lack of water pressure
In the event of a power failure, Campus Safety will check all affected buildings. Buildings with an elevator will be given priority. Unless there is an apparent dangerous condition, it is recommended that occupants do not evacuate the building unless directed to do so by Campus Safety or the Santa Clara Police or Fire Department.
ELECTRIC LIGHT FAILURE:
Most buildings on campus are equipped with emergency lighting. However, the emergency lighting may not always provide sufficient illumination for safe exiting. Therefore, it is advisable to have a flashlight and a portable radio available for emergencies. If it appears that you are alone in a building without electric power, notify Campus Safety x4444 for assistance.
NATURAL GAS LEAK:
Cease all operations – notify Campus Safety x4444 and exit the area immediately. To avoid sparks, leave all electrical equipment, i.e. lights, computers, appliances, etc., as is. Electrical arcing can trigger an explosion.
VENTILIATION PROBLEMS:
If smoke or odors come from the ventilation system, immediately notify Campus Safety x4444. If necessary, cease all operations and vacate the area.
