About Bioengineering

In 2006, the University launched an interdisciplinary program in Bioengineering studies. The goal of the program is to educate students to solve problems at the interface of engineering and the life sciences.

The program is designed to prepare students for careers in the medical-device and biotechnology industries, biomedical research, graduate study in bioengineering, or entry into medical school. This is achieved by integrating the necessary background in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics with engineering analysis and design.

The program also provides an understanding of the problems and issues relating to the interaction between living and non-living materials and systems. Through laboratory experiences, our students obtain the skills to take measurements and interpret data obtained from biological systems.

The University's Silicon Valley location is home to many of the most innovative biotechnology and medical device companies in the world, which provides ample opportunity for internships and the real-world industrial and technical experience required to succeed in this burgeoning field.
