Welcome Professors Asuri and Zhang!

Dr. Jonathan Zhang joins the Bioengineering department as associate professor, specializing in protein engineering including expanding genetic codes in mammalian cells and stem cells, engineering synthetic biomarker/recognizing reagents, bio-devices engineering and anti-infective drug discovery. He received his PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry from University of Texas at Austin/ Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 2001. He worked as an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at The Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, CA) during 2001-2004, and has been an assistant professor in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry, College of Pharmacy at UT-Austin since 2004.

Dr. Prashanth Asuri joins the Bioengineering department as assistant professor, specializing in Tissue Engineering. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2007 with a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering. During 2007-2009, he held a research position at Solidus Biosciences, and from 2009, he was a postdoctoral researcher at UC-Berkeley before joining Santa Clara University.
