Welcome Professor Kim

Unyoung (Ashley) Kim joins the Bioengineering department as assistant professor, specializing in Biological Microtechnology. Professor Kim is a mechanical engineer by training with an emphasis on the integrated microfluidic systems for biotechnologies. She graduated from University of California, Santa Barbara with her Ph.D. and Certificate in College and University Teaching (CCUT) in 2009.

Yuling Yan (Bioengineering) and her co-authors have a paper "Acoustic and High-speed Digital Imaging Based Analysis of Pathological Voice Contributes to Better Understanding and Differential Diagnosis of Neurological Dysphonias and of Mimicking Phonatory Disorders” accepted to the Proceedings of the 10th Annual Conf. Int. Speech Communication Association held in Brighton, UK, Sept. 6-10.

Yuling Yan (bioengineering) and Godfrey presented the Bioengineering Program to the Academic Affairs Committee for the Board of Trustees for their approval.

Yuling Yan (bioengineering) and Mohammad Ayoubi (mechanical engineering) were inducted as Eminent Engineers and 34 engineering students also accepted the Obligation of an Engineer during the School of Engineering’s 23rd annual Order of the Engineer ceremony held this week.

Yuling Yan (Bioengineering) and her co-author have a paper "Implementation of a Virtual Laryngoscope System Using Efficient Reconstruction Algorithms" accepted to publish in Medical Science Monitor, a peer-reviewed International Medical Journal for Experimental and Clinical Research.

Bioengineering – the proposal for a new BS degree in Bioengineering, which was submitted to the SCU Academic Affairs Committee for review this January, is now approved by the Provost. Yuling Yan will be presenting the proposal to the AAC of the board of trustees in June.

Bioengineering has received a commitment of $200,000 in funding (to be received in December) supporting laboratory and equipment needs through the generosity of the Fletcher Jones Foundation. Thanks to Margaret McCarthy (development) for soliciting this donation.

Yuling Yan (bioengineering) is one of the three investigators in a multi-investigator proposal “High-contrast imaging of single molecules in live cells” recently awarded by the NIH (National Institute of Health) for a 4-year funding period (2009.4~2013.3). She is receiving a total funding of $220,842.

Feb. 28, 2009

Yuling Yan (Bioengineering), as an invited faculty speaker, attended the XVII Annual PVSF (Pacific Voice and Speech Foundation)/ UCLA Voice Conference on Neurological Voice Disorders: Diagnosis, Treatment, and Outcomes, which was held on UCLA campus during Feb. 27-28. The title of her presentation was “Acoustic and imaging-based analysis of voice contributes to the understanding and differential diagnosis of neurological dysphonia and mimicking disorders”.
