Oracle Labs Internship Opportunity for Summer 2013
Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013
Oracle Labs is the research arm of Oracle. Our researchers look for novel approaches and methodologies, often taking on projects with high risk or uncertainty or that are difficult to tackle within a product-development organization. The Oracle Labs Modeling, Simulation, and Optimization group performs research and consulting in applied mathematics. We have an opportunity for a graduate student intern this summer. It might be of special interest to a graduate student doing research in integer programming.
Position Description and Requirements: This opportunity relates to an algorithm that we have created to do specialized types of integer non-linear programming. We use a combination of greedy techniques to find a solution quickly and randomization to try to escape from local optimums. An example use of this algorithm is price optimization for products within Oracle’s retail business unit. The summer intern position is to help improve the algorithm by refactoring the code and augmenting the types of objective functions and constraints that can be solved. The intern will also be expected to test the algorithm on classic integer programming problems, identify optimal parameter settings, and consider extensions of the algorithm to other mathematical programming problems. The applicant must be a strong Java programmer and have familiarity with integer programming techniques. The applicant must be a graduate student in MS&E, ICME, or a related field; a PhD student is preferred.
Oracle Labs is located in Belmont, CA, at Oracle headquarters. If interested in this opportunity, reply to firstname.lastname@example.org
