Description Concept of parallelism, thread programming, thread/process synchronization, synchronization algorithms and language constructs, shared-memory vs. message-passing. Parallel programming concept, performance metrics, overview of parallel architectures, evaluation of parallel algorithms, data parallel programming, shared-memory and message-passing parallel programming. Case studies on application algorithms. Hands-on lab on multi-core CPUs and many-core GPUs. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in COEN 11 and 122. Co-requisite: COEN 145L.
