Description Data Communication: circuit and packet switching, latency and bandwidth, throughput/delay analysis. Application Layer: client/server model, socket programming, Web, e-mail, FTP. Transport Layer: TCP and UDP, flow control, congestion control, sliding window techniques. Network Layer: IP and routing. Data Link Layer: shared channels, media access control protocols, error detection and correction. Mobile computing and wireless networks. Network security. Laboratory consists of projects on software development of network protocols and applications. Prerequisite: COEN 12 with a grade of C- or better. Recommended co-requisite: AMTH 108. Co-requisite: 146L
