Bill graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1978 with his BSME and received an MSCIS in 2000 from the University of Phoenix. His predominant focus has been in the area of electromechanical design. Prior to joining MBARI he was a group leader at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company (LMSC) in the Advanced Systems Division. Bill joined MBARI in 1991 as the lead mechanical designer and project manager for the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) Tiburon. Bill was also project Manager for the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) Dorado development. Bill is currently doing research and instrument development to study ocean acidification as well as autonomous platform development with the students at SCU.

Sr. Manager, Lockheed Martin
Larry Loh was appointed Chief Engineer of the Advanced Technology Center, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in January 2008. He has also served as Technical Director of the Advanced Technology Center and Functional Director of Engineering Sciences.
Previously, Larry served as Senior Manager of Mechanical Design providing functional support to programs for all lines of business. Before that, he served as Senior Manager of Mechanical Design, Analysis, and Test of Commercial Space Systems overseeing personnel, cost, schedule, and technical issues, he also interfaced with international customers, launch vehicle providers, and suppliers. He joined Lockheed in 1990 and has held a succession of increasingly responsible technical and management positions participating in space system design.
Before joining Lockheed Martin, Larry served as Staff Engineer for Engineering Information System, Inc. He participated in the software development of finite element code for structural and thermal analyses.
Larry has publications in journals and presented at professional conferences. He is the collaborator of the graduate textbook Structural Dynamics by Finite Elements published in 1987. He was a member of the Lockheed Martin industry team that taught graduate classes offered jointly by the Aeronautics and Astronautics and Mechanical Engineering departments at Stanford University.
Larry earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Hawaii, Master’s, Engineer’s, and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering from Stanford University. Larry serves on the Industry Advisory Board for the mechanical engineering department of the Santa Clara University. He is a member of AIAA.

Staff Mechanical Engineer, Novellus Systems
Mark joined Novellus Systems in 2000 where he has been working primarily in the fields of numerical modeling and experimental dynamics. Mark is also currently affiliated with the Novellus Intellectual Property Development Group, and teaches Novellus’ corporate training classes in vibrations and dynamics. Prior to joining Novellus, Mark was a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Lockheed Martin where he worked in various roles on the development of civil and commercial spacecraft. Mark has also served as an engineering consultant in the medical device and heavy equipment industries, and a Pro Bono Attorney with the Pro Bono Project of Silicon Valley.
Mark has BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Santa Clara University, and a Juris Doctorate from the Santa Clara University School of Law. Mark is a registered Mechanical Engineer in California and Hawaii and has been admitted to the state Bars of California and Hawaii.
Mark is a member of ASME and has been a member of the SCU Mechanical Engineering Advisory board since 2007.

Pete Woytowitz, Ph.D., P.E. is currently an Adjunct Professor in Mechanical and Civil Engineering teaching courses in Finite Element Analysis, Advanced Vibrations and Strength of Materials. He is also Sr. Manager, Modeling & Reliability at Novellus Systems Inc. His specialization’s include finite element modeling of mechanical systems, stress, structural & thermal analysis and reliability. Prior to joining Novellus Systems he was a Principal Engineer at Engineering Mechanics Technology, a consulting company. Prior to that he worked at companies including Failure Analysis Associates, Ford Aerospace and Communications Corporation and Boeing Commercial Airplane Company. He received his BSME from University of Maryland (1977), MS Engineering (Santa Clara University, 1980), Degree of Engineer (Stanford University, 1985) and his Ph.D. (ME) from Santa Clara University in 1993. He is a member of A.S.M.E. and is Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Industrial Advisory Board at SCU.
