Faculty & Staff
At Santa Clara University, the expertise of the faculty covers all the fundamental mechanical engineering disciplines. A good mix of experienced teachers and enthusiastic younger faculty members enrich the program. All professors hold the Ph.D., the highest degree granted in their field, and many have industrial experience. All classroom teaching is done by faculty. Faculty choose to teach at Santa Clara because they genuinely enjoy getting to know students. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor and is required to consult with his or her advisor at regular intervals. The department's low student-to-faculty ratio of 18-to-1 means that class sizes are small and that faculty have ample time for student advising and mentoring.
Research interests of the faculty include hypersonic aircraft flight, plastics recycling, laser diagnostics, and biomechanics. Faculty frequently involve students in their research projects. Faculty members publish frequently, and several are active in their profession by holding important offices and organizing technical conferences.
