Nam Ling Elevated to IEEE Fellow

Nam Ling, professor of computer engineering, has been elevated to IEEE Fellow "for contributions to video coding algorithms and architectures."

According to the IEEE website, "The grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and shall be conferred...upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest." The evaluation procedure is one of the most rigorous among all professional societies, and this distinction is bestowed upon less than 0.1% of IEEE members worldwide.

IEEE (the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world's largest engineering professional society, with more than 370,000 members, including 80,000 students, in over 160 countries. It has approximately 1,676 chapters worldwide and publishes 132 different journals and magazines, 450 conferences each year, and with 900 active international standards ( http://www.ieee.org ).
