School of Engineering Outreach
One Step Ahead
One Step Ahead brings female high school students from the GAINS program (Girls Achieving in Non-Traditional Subjects) to campus to learn about the different engineering disciplines and participate in hands-on engineering activities. With the support of various engineering faculty and organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), current SCU undergraduates introduce engineering to the high school students, effectively demonstrating electrical, computer, mechanical, and civil engineering concepts through fun experiments such as a tsunami simulation, programming exercises, a lesson in how gears work, and through the use of a bridge construction simulation program.
