Breaking News: SCU has just been selected to participate in the 2013 Solar Decathlon!Read more. Here we go again! The U.S. Department of Energy announced in January 2008 that Santa Clara University will be one of the twenty collegiate teams competing in the 2009 Solar Decathlon on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Once again a team of highly qualified, multi-disciplinary students will be guided by a faculty team with expertise in thermal design of buildings, solar thermal systems, photovoltaic systems, sustainable structural engineering, marketing, and project management. Particularly exciting for the School of Engineering is a new collaboration with California College of the Arts’ architecture program. Students and faculty members from CCA have joined the team as experts in architectural design of low-energy buildings and trends in sustainable architecture. The School of Engineering is actively fund raising to support this project and its entire sustainability program, and invites alumni and friends to join with us in support of these endeavors. Contact Leman Ethem for information on how you can participate in the success of these endeavors. Students are hard at work getting Refract House re-assembled and ready for the Opening Ceremonies on October 8, 2009. View a slide show of day 1 construction on the Mall.
