A New Career Services Program Exclusively for Recent Graduates

With the fall semester of a new school year underway, we continue to see signs that the job market is on the upswing. For instance, this fall we are hosting more employers than last year during our busy fall recruiting season on campus. Even with an increasingly promising outlook, however, we still strive to do more to help our recent graduates succeed in a market that, though improved, can be a difficult one to navigate, especially for the first time.

With the arrival of Matthew Wayman ’97 as our new assistant director for law graduate employment last spring, our office began to develop new initiatives to improve our post-graduate placement rates. I am pleased to announce that one such initiative will be launched this fall with the inception of a post-graduate clerkship program to help match participating employers with recent SCU law graduates. Such employment will be in the form of temporary legal clerkships with law firms, corporations, and other organizations, as opposed to the traditional post-graduate judicial clerkships that are already available through other avenues. These non-judicial clerkships have a suggested start date in September or October and run for a suggested term of six months. Participation in this program is subject to certain rules and guidelines. To participate in this program as an employer or as a clerk, please contact the Law Career Services Office at 408-554-4162. We look forward to hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to work with you if you need career assistance or if your organization has hiring needs.
