Get Involved with the School of Law through the Law Alumni Board

Dear Alumni:
John Baldwin

One of the more enjoyable aspects of my job over the past four years has been working with the Law Alumni Board. When I arrived in March of 1999, approximately half of the positions on the board were filled. That first summer, at a board retreat, the board was reorganized and revitalized. Under the guidance of the two presidents since then, Bill Clayton ’74 and Rebecca Sue Jones ’87, the board now has a full complement of members and is involved in a wide array of activities: the Alumni/Student Dinner Program, Law Career Day, Alumni Weekend, the Justice Ed Panelli Golf Classic, and the annual Alumni Special Achievement Awards dinner. The Alumni Endowed Scholarship is now fully funded and the board selects deserving recipients each year. The board also raises money each year to provide an emergency loan fund for students in need.

“Alumni offer the benefit of their experience, their ideas, and their energy. The more alumni we have involved and interacting with students, faculty, and staff, the better this law school will become.”
—John Baldwin

An active, energized Alumni Board has brought about a significant increase of alumni involvement in the life of the school. Alumni offer the benefit of their experience, their ideas, and their energy. The more alumni we have involved and interacting with students, faculty, and staff, the better this law school will become.

If you would like to get involved, I have a suggestion for you. The Alumni Board has established an adjunct group called the Board of Counselors. Members of this group support the board and the alumni office by acting as liaisons to law alumni in their local area. A member would, among other things, notify local alumni of upcoming school events in his/her area, organize social or educational events, and solicit nominations from local alumni for the annual Alumni Special Achievement Awards. Opportunities abound to work with admissions or career services as well.

The Board of Counselors will enable alumni from all over the country to become more involved with the School of Law. All your activities would be local, except for one meeting a year, on campus, with the Alumni Board.
