Law BriefsLaw Center Celebration Honors Alumni and Others Serving the CommunityA law school alumnus was among those honored for his years of dedication to the Katharine and George Alexander Community law center at its annual dinner in October. Robert Nuddleman ’97 was honored for his work in the area of workers’ rights at the seventh annual Community, Commitment and Courage Celebration held at the Adobe Lodge. Nuddleman, who practices employment rights law in San Jose, was honored with the commitment award. The community award was presented to the San Jose firm of Alexander, Hawes & Audet. The courage award was given to Sandra Sanchez, an immigration client who assisted the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department in prosecuting her employer, a man who attempted to rape and kill her when she worked as a nanny. Ruth Silver Taube ’93 received the director’s award for serving as a volunteer attorney for the Workers’ Rights Advice Clinic for nine years, and being the supervising attorney for workers’ rights workshops. Also at the dinner, the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers Association presented a check for $10,000 to the law center. The money was raised at a golf tournament last July. The law center has been the golf tournament’s beneficiary for the past two years, according to Lawrence Ramirez ’84, president of the group. In the first tournament, $7,000 was raised. About 100 people attended the tournament, which was held at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Course in South San Jose. The awards dinner, also a fund raiser, generated approximately $30,000 to support center programs. |
