Kudos for Campaign Success

Dear Alumni and Friends:

I am happy to report that the law school’s first-ever capital campaign, From Promise to Prominence, has come to a very successful conclusion. As of December 31, 2006 the campaign had raised more than $17.5 million dollars against a goal of $12 million. Visit "Campaign Report: From Promise to Prominence" for more details and reflections from the dean, the campaign co-chair, and two scholarship recipients.

An enormous number of people are responsible for the overwhelming success of the campaign, and I want to offer my personal thanks to the many loyal alumni, friends, faculty, and staff who made it all possible. Your support for, and dedication to, Santa Clara Law made the difference.

This campaign will have a significant impact on the future of this law school, but more important is the impact on the lives of countless students, now and in the future, who will be the beneficiaries of the many enhancements to the school made possible by the campaign, including the thirty-four new endowed scholarships. Because of your generosity, these students will graduate with either no debt load, or a more modest one, providing them with the freedom to pursue the careers that they wish.

These scholarships came as the result of many alumni who, having themselves received scholarships, were motivated to give back to the school that enabled their success. I believe it’s safe to say that, over time, these new scholarships will be worth much more than their original value, as future recipients give back in turn.

This campaign is just the beginning for Santa Clara Law. You have laid a strong foundation for the future, and we must continue to work together to make this law school the best it can be, both now and for the law students of the future. I look forward to working with all of you to do just that.

Sincerely,

JOHN BALDWIN
