48 Edmund C. Hurlbutt Jr. B.S. ’42, Sept. 26, 2006. A native of Alaska, he fought with an artillery unit in the Pacific during World War II—earning Silver and Bronze Stars. After law school, he practiced in Visalia, working on disputes involving personal injury, professional liabil ity, water law, and business. He was president of the Visalia Chamber of Commerce, the Tulare County Bar Association and the Visalia Rotary Club. He was Visalia’s Young Man of the Year in 1956 and Visalia Man of the Year 12 years later. Survivors include his wife, Juanita, and four children.
49 James Ammon Wright B.A. ’43, Aug. 21, 2006. The former undergraduate football player served in the U.S. Army during World War II, then returned to SCU, where he was the first president of the Student Bar Association, and where he won the Outstanding Graduate Award. Upon graduation, he joined the firm of Miller & Morton and later became a partner. He was appointed to the Sunnyvale Municipal Court in 1972, and was elevated to Superior Court in 1975 by then-governor Ronald Reagan. In 1985 he was unanimously elected presiding judge of the Santa Clara County Superior Court. He retired in 1988. In the spring of 2006, he was honored with the Alumni Special Achievement Award by Santa Clara Law. His wife of nearly 58 years, Janet, preceded him in death on May 31, 2006. He is survived by three children and six grandchildren.

50 John D. Stephens Jr., March 2, 2006. He is survived by a daughter.
64 Salvatore R. Spano BSC ’64, July 14, 2006. A native of New York City, he served in the Coast Guard and spent his career in law, managing his own law firm and later serving as an administrative law judge. He is survived by a daughter.
76 Jack Fleming B.S. ’73, Dec. 6, 2006. He lived in Portola Valley and was vice president of the SCU Alumni Association. He is survived by his wife, Christine, and children Colin B.S. ’05, a second year SCU law student, Molly and Brendan.
77 George Cajiga, Nov. 2, 2006. He was a defense attorney in the office of the Fresno County Public Defender and was named the county’s public defender in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Marcia, and two daughters.
80 Charles "Chuck" Sabes, Dec. 25, 2006. He practiced law in San Jose for many years, and was an active member in many local organizations, including the Saratoga High School Boosters Club and Congregation Beth David. He also coached many of his five children’s sports teams. He is survived by his wife, Robin, children Ilana, Michael, Elisa, Rachel, and Nicole, and three siblings.
82 Phillip Charles Naylor, June 1, 2006. A native of Monticello, Iowa, he earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Sacramento, before earning his law degree. He is survived by his wife, Susan, and six children.
84 Richard Leland Clenner, Jan. 30. He worked as an ERISA attorney for more than 20 years, and traveled throughout the country giving seminars on defined benefit plans. He also had a CPA license. An accomplished drummer, he was part of the rock band Crystal Mist. Survivors include his wife, Pat, his parents, and a sister.
94 Timothy Townley, Feb. 1, 2006.
