Building Lasting Relationships
Dear Alumni and Friends:
Interaction with alumni and friends of the law school is critical to building on past success. In my short time in the position, it has been exciting to see the level of commitment and overwhelming interest in becoming more engaged. I look forward to personally getting to know alumni, friends, faculty, and staff to gain a better understanding of how we can address areas of interest and concern. Engaging leadership is critical to success. Clearly there are many outstanding programs, services, and educational scholarship opportunities currently in place across the school. Fortunately, I have found volunteer and staff leadership committed to developing and expanding the visibility and stature of Santa Clara Law. It is my desire to actively collaborate to enhance these efforts. And finally, but certainly not least important, is raising the necessary financial support to fund critical law school services and programs. The recent “Campaign for Santa Clara” saw over $17 million raised for the law school. Yet necessary funds continue to be needed for scholarships, professorships, programs, and facility needs. It will be exciting to join with each of you to identify, develop, and execute strategies to address the most pressing future needs of Santa Clara Law. In my short time at the law school, it is clear that we have a rich tradition that provides for both local and national prominence in the legal community; outstanding centers, institutes, and programs designed to develop professional skills while responding to current and emerging community legal needs; and an increasingly strong reunion program necessary to keep alumni engaged and involved in campus activities. Yet challenges exist, and we need to join in identifying and addressing those areas most critical to the future of the School of Law. Let's build on our past traditions and successes, and work together to address both the current and emerging needs of students, faculty, and alumni. Sincerely, LAWRENCE DONATONI

Spring is a time of change, and I am delighted to begin my new post as the Assistant Dean for Law Alumni and Development. As a Santa Clara alum and having spent over nine years in SCU University Relations, I look forward to the new challenges of this position. During my professional years in development and fundraising, I have learned that the key to success is building lasting relationships at all levels.Fortunately Santa Clara Law has a strong foundation in place with committed leadership, a talented staff, and most importantly dedicated alumni and volunteers. In taking over my new responsibilities, there are several goals I believe are critical to our mutual success in the future.
