Hon. Robert B. Yonts Jr. B.A. '63 retired as judge of the Santa Cruz County Superior Court in Jan. 2007, and works part time as a mediator and arbitrator with JAMS. He lives in Soquel with his wife, Bjorg, a stone sculptor. Their family includes 10 children and 28 grandchildren.

Alfred Morici practices probate, estate planning, and immigration law in Palm Beach County, Fla. He was recently admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

Ken Bryant is a principal of Bryant Conflict Management, providing dispute resolution services as an arbitrator and mediator in San Jose. He teaches negotiation and dispute resolution in the College of Business at San Jose State University.

Timothy Jon Helfer teaches at California State University, Stanislaus. James Schiavenza has worked in the office of the California Attorney General for over 30 years. Since 2001, he has been the senior assistant attorney general. He has been a member of the faculty of Lincoln Law School since 1987. He lives with his wife and daughter in Sacramento.

Charles S. Poochigian has joined the Fresno law firm of Dowling, Aaron & Keeler, where he counsels clients on issues involving government agencies, land use, real estate, the environment, and natural resources. Previously, he served in the California Assembly and State Senate. Mary Hood was one of 40 alumni honored by the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University at its 40th continuous accreditation anniversary. She is executive law librarian at the School of Law. John Patton is a partner at Shapiro Buchman Provine & Patton in Walnut Creek, where he specializes in civil trial work. He lives in Piedmont with his wife, Cathy (Preece) B.A. '76, and has two children: Anna, who attended UCLA, and Michael, a junior at SCU.

Hon. David Lampe was appointed a judge on the Kern County Superior Court in June 2007. Previously, he was a partner with LeBeau-Thelen since 1985, and an associate and partner with Borton, Petrini & Conron. Kate Murashige is a senior partner in the San Diego office of Morrison & Foerster, practicing in the biotech patent law field.

Fernando Chavez is an attorney at the Cochran Firm in Los Angeles, founded by the late Johnnie Cochran Jr. He heads a division that serves Latino clients. Chavez is the son of the late labor leader Cesar Chavez, and has litigated numerous individual and class action cases. Lauren Easman Strickland is a licensed marriage and family therapist, as well as an attorney. She lives in Westport, Conn., where she has a private mediation/therapy practice. Jeffrey Ferriell has been appointed a member of the Ohio Council on Uniform State Laws by Governor Ted Strickland. He is also a member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. Ferriell is a law professor at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He notes that another professor at the Capital Law School is Susan Looper-Friedman '81. Raoul Renaud is a hearing officer for the California Energy Commission. He writes, “It's exciting to be part of this agency, and I feel like it's a place where I can make a real contribution to the Commission's efforts to slow and hopefully reduce the accumulation of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.” Barbara Spector is the mayor of Los Gatos. She is an attorney with Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel in San Jose. Patti White represents District 3 on the State Bar Board of Governors, an elected position. She is also a member of the steering committee of the Commission on Impartial Courts. She is a shareholder at Littler Mendelson in San Jose.

Heinz Binder and Michael Malter '80 are marking the 20th anniversary of their bankruptcy firm, Binder & Malter, which opened in October 1987. Sean Gallagher was a public defender in Santa Cruz for more than 20 years before he and his wife, Liz, an emergency room nurse, moved to the big island of Hawaii, where he now works as a beach lifeguard with the Hawaii Fire Department. He also teaches part time at the local high school. Glenn Litwak is an entertainment attorney with Litwak & Havkin in Beverly Hills. He teaches a course called “Self-Defense in the Music Business” at the UCLA Extension Entertainment Studies Program and conducts workshops for California Lawyers for the Arts. Sandy (Smith) Hauserman is a broker-associate with Coldwell Banker in Tahoe City, selling residential real estate in North Tahoe and Truckee. Her husband, Tim, is a writer. With two teenage daughters, she is active in Girl Scouts and school activities.

Rolanda Pierre-Dixon received the Stephen L. von Reisen Lecturer of Merit Award from the National College of District Attorneys for her work addressing domestic violence. Pierre-Dixon is an assistant district attorney in Santa Clara County. Hon. Dennis J. McLaughlin B.A. '77 has been named supervising judge for the Fremont Hall of Justice of the Alameda County Superior Court for 2008.

Nina Eejima is a senior counsel for the World Bank. She lives in Hawaii, and handles legal operational activities for Asia. Michael Isaacs was named one of the “Best Lawyers in the Bay Area” by Bay Area Lawyers Magazine in 2006 and previously was named one of the “Best Lawyers in America” by BestLawyers.com. He is a partner at Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps in San Francisco. Michael Mahaffey is a prosecutor with the Washoe County District Attorney's Office in Reno, Nev. He is married to Martha (Bernal) B.S. '80, and they have three children between the ages of 12 and 22.

Manuel Fishman is a partner in the real estate practice group at Cooley Godward Kronish in San Francisco. Previously, he was a partner in the San Francisco office of Stoel Rives. In addition to being listed in “The Best Lawyers in America,” by BestLawyers.com, he has been active with the Building Owners and Managers Association of San Francisco, and with the executive committee of the state bar's real property law section. Paul J. Hutter is general counsel at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C. He previously served for 15 years in the V.A.'s Office of General Counsel. Leslie Orta B.A. '79 is assistant district counsel with the Santa Clara Valley Water District, where she practices public works construction and general government law. She spent 19 years as deputy county counsel for Santa Clara County.

Leana Giannini has taught Italian to junior high school students for 10 years, while raising her own three children. An additional vocation is helping vacationers plan trips to off-the-beaten-path Italian and French locations. Andy Stroud is a partner in Mennemeier, Glassman & Stroud, a Sacramento firm that represented Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in several high profile cases. Previously, Stroud worked for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Mary McCurdy practices law at McCurdy & Fuller in Menlo Park. Hon. Gilbert Ochoa was appointed a judge on the San Bernardino County Superior Court by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Previously, he was managing attorney for Bollington & Ochoa for 14 years, and was also a deputy district attorney in Orange County for three years. David Sandino is chief counsel for the California Department of Water Resources. He previously was acting chief counsel, and senior staff counsel. He has also been active in municipal government in the city of Davis, and has served on Davis' planning commission.

William Alexander writes that he is still practicing complex business and real estate litigation in Bakersfield. He and his wife, Suzy, have three children. He stays active by cycling and playing basketball, golf, and racquetball. Cory Van Arsdale is chief executive officer of Massive, a company that brokers ad placement in video games. The company was founded in 2003 and purchased by Microsoft in 2006. Brita Bayless is city attorney in Roseville, where she lives with her four children.

Dorian Daley was appointed general counsel of Oracle, moving up from vice president of legal affairs. She was an associate at Landels, Ripley & Diamond before joining Oracle.

Leslie R. Lopez is general counsel and deputy director for the California Consumer Services Agency. Previously, she was deputy attorney general for the government law section of the Department of Justice, and also was deputy city attorney for the City of Sacramento. Hector Moreno has opened the law firm of J. Hector Moreno Jr. & Associates. The firm handles family and criminal law and selected civil litigation. Previously, he was a Santa Clara County prosecutor and associate attorney at the Moreno Family Law Firm. He and his wife, Christine, have five children and two grandchildren. Garrett Sanderson is a commercial litigation partner at Carroll, Burdick & McDonough. He represented the city of San Diego in an inverse condemnation case in 2007, which reunited him with Fritz Ortlieb, a deputy city attorney. Sandy and his wife, Laura, have three children, ages 8 to 13. They share Giants tickets with Randy Lee, his wife Maggie (Caruso)'89, and their three children. Randy is a litigation partner at Walsworth, Franklin, Bevins & McCall in San Francisco.

Mark Cochran is executive vice president and general counsel for McAfee in Santa Clara. Previously, he was vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary for Hyperion. Harold McCracken is the staff judge advocate for the U.S. Army's Southern European Task Force, in Vicenza, Italy. He advises the commanding general on such issues as criminal law, international law, and status of forces agreements.

Sam Crump is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives, one of only nine House members who are qualified to practice law. He practices with Boates & Crump in Anthem, Ariz. Matt Ruby is vice president, legal and general counsel for Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment. He previously was corporate counsel for Sanmina-SCI. He also worked for Applied Biosystems as senior counsel and manager of the legal department's international group.

Chris Morales is a state bar-certified criminal law specialist in San Francisco. Chris serves on the board of directors of the San Mateo County Bar Association and was recently elected to the board of directors of San Francisco's Huckleberry House, which provides services for homeless teenagers. Cynthia Sandberg lives on two acres in Ben Lomond, where she grows 200 varieties of organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, and edible flowers exclusively for chef David Kinch, owner of Manresa restaurant in Los Gatos. Previously, she was a civil litigator for five years.

Walt DuFlock is vice president of business development at Zippi Networks in San Jose. He is a 15-year veteran of Internet-related marketing management. Previously, he was director of marketing at MerchantCircle, and also worked for eBay in sales and marketing. Kyle Guse is a partner with McDermott Will & Emery in Palo Alto. His practice emphasizes mergers and acquisitions for technology and life sciences companies. Patrick Miyaki and his wife, Edith, announce the birth of their first child, Marissa Isabella.

Peggy Doyle works for Tucker Ellis & West as counsel in the firm's San Francisco office. She does defense litigation, and has extensive experience in catastrophic personal injury actions. Laura Owen is vice president of human resources at Credence Systems Corporation in Milpitas. Previously, she was senior vice president, human resources, for Vitria Technology, and has also held executive-level positions managing global human resources for such companies as Macrovision and Cisco Systems. Cynthia Waddell participated in the International Conference on Accessibility of Web Content and Digital Documents for Persons with Special Needs in Belgrade, Serbia. Her book, Web Accessibility: Web Standards and Regulatory Compliance, has been translated into Japanese. Zachary Zaharek MBA, B.S. '91, is president-elect of the Association of Corporate Counsels' Southern California chapter.

Jo-Ann Adams practices estate planning law and lives in Waikiki, Hawaii, where she is involved in the Waikiki Neighborhood Board, a grassroots political organization. In June 2007, Timothy Branson B.A. '91 and his wife, Alexandra (Werner) B.S. '94, welcomed a son, Tommy, who joins sisters McKenna and Kelsey. Tim is senior counsel in the San Diego office of Gordon & Rees, specializing in commercial litigation. Shauna Chastain B.A. '91 practices family law in Fairfield. She is a certified family law specialist. Michael Polentz is a partner in the real estate and land use practice group of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, in Palo Alto. Previously, he was at Miller Starr Regalia. Perry Woodward was elected to Gilroy's city council in November 2007.

Fitzpatrick is a partner in the Palo Alto office of Goodwin Procter. Terry Fahn is senior vice president of communications for Dick Clark Productions in Los Angeles. Previously, he was a senior member at Sitrick and Company. Earlier in his career, he was an attorney at Christensen, Miller, Fink, Jacobs, Glaser, Weil & Shapiro. Maggie Fields Harmon is gift planning officer for the Jewish Community Foundation of the Greater East Bay, and lives in Oakland with her husband and two children. Jim Masetti and his wife, Susan (Smith) '97, welcomed their second daughter, Lauryn, in August 2007. She joins sister Kathryn. Jim is a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the corporate and securities department. Michael Reiter is the assistant city attorney in Redlands. He and his wife, Lisa DeLorme, live in San Bernardino with their daughter, Lauren. He is on the board of directors of the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino and the Inland Empire United Way. Joseph Schultz is married to Emily Felts '99, and their son was born on March 29, 2007. Joe is an associate with McCarthy & McCarthy in Oakland. The family recently returned to the Bay Area after five years in Seattle.

Previously, she was a family law attorney with Bartholomew, Wasznicky & Molinaro in Sacramento. Sam Florio B.A. '93 and his wife, Denise, welcomed a daughter, Claire, in Aug. 2006. She joins brother Will. Sam has returned to SCU as the University's risk manager and as group risk manager for the California Province of the Society of Jesus Insurance Group.

Sagi Solomon created a wine social network called OpenBottles.com in 2005. It was featured in a BusinessWeek article called “Building a FaceBook for Wine.”

Heather (Burns) Allan and Eva Martelle operate Allan and Martelle, a family law practice in San Jose's Willow Glen neighborhood. George Dowell is an associate with Willoughby, Stuart & Bening in San Jose. His family, which includes wife Lisa (Gilmore), and young son, Trooper, has moved to the South Bay from Walnut Creek. Randy Webb is a legal research attorney in the civil law division of the Santa Clara County Superior Court. He prepares memos for discovery and law and motion matters for judges.

Phillip Arthur is a deputy attorney general in the correctional law section of the attorney general's office in Sacramento. Kindon Olson and his wife, Megan, announce the birth of a son, Kaden, on Dec. 1, 2006. Kindon works at Palumbo Bergstrom in Irvine.
