Pension Reform

Monday, Aug. 9, 2010

Mayors, city managers, city attorneys, and HR directors gathered at the Center's Public Sector Roundtable in August to discuss the challenges posed by the rising costs of public pensions.  While the debate in other settings has often been acrimonious, participants in the roundtable focused on the ethical dimension of the problem, acknowledging the justice on both sides of the issue.

The discussion was led by an expert panel including Jay Goldstone, chief operating officer for the city of San Diego; Daniel Rich, city manager of the city of Campbell, and Alex Gurza, director of employee relations for the city of San Jose.  Judy Nadler, the Center's senior fellow in government ethics, moderated.
