The tension between supporting democracy and advancing US national interests was one of the topics covered by the Center's Emerging Issues Group in a recent conversation with Farid Senzai (podcast). Senzai, an assistant professor of political science at SCU, gave the historical background to the current protests and laid out some of the ethical issues facing the US diplomats. Senzai teaches Politics of the Middle East. His current research explores U.S. democracy promotion in the Middle East, U.S. relations with the Muslim world and a national study of Muslims in America.
