Fairness, Financial Markets, and the Fallout From the Subprime Crisis

Lecture

The sub-prime mortgage crisis has rattled financial markets throughout the world, upended thousands of American homeowners, and raised profound questions about the fairness of financial markets. To what extent have overlooked issues of conflict-of-interest played a role in the financial meltdown? And how are average consumers supposed to assess the risk involved in buying securities tied to new and complex financial instruments created out of things like subprime mortgages? One of the nation's top financial journalists, Gretchen Morgenson of the New York Times will address these questions and more during her talk at Santa Clara University.
