Frequently Asked Questions
What items are allowed for this event, and what other security measures will be in place?
Santa Clara University strongly encourages attendees to not bring any type of bags to the event. However, the following will be permitted:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12."
- One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
- Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the event center with one of the clear plastic bag options.
- An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.
Prohibited items include, but are not limited to: purses larger than a clutch bag, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, seat cushions, luggage of any kind, computer bags, and camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size.
These policies will be identical to the game-day security measures practiced by the National Football League, and more information can be found on the NFL's official site.
SCU will not store or watch any prohibited items.
Allowable items can be carried into the event center, this includes cameras and smart phones.
Security will also include additional measures such as pat downs, bag checks, and metal detectors.
Are tickets still available?
Tickets to the event have sold out, but a live stream will be available at the time of the event, Feb. 24, 10 a.m. at www.scu.edu/dalailama.
Why is there a fee to hear the Dalai Lama speak?
Santa Clara University is charging a fee only to recoup the costs of the event. All proceeds will go toward covering the costs of the event. Should there be any surplus, it will be donated to community and charitable organizations. Neither Santa Clara University nor the Dalai Lama will profit from this event.
Is my ticket purchase refundable?
All ticket purchases are nonrefundable.

Where is the Leavey Center located?
The Leavey Center is a 4,000-seat indoor venue located on the Santa Clara University campus. A map of campus can be found online at www.scu.edu/map/
When should I arrive at the event?
The event will begin promptly at 10 a.m. and it is recommended to arrive two hours early in order to pass through security. Doors will open at 8 a.m.
Will outside food be allowed into the event and can I purchase food at the event?

How do I get to the Leavey Center?
From Highway 280, take the I-880/17 connector towards Oakland. From I-880, take the Alameda exit. After making a left turn at the stop light off the exit, follow the Alameda for approximately one mile and the Leavey Center will come into view on your left. The Alameda veers right into El Camino Real. Make a left into the main entrance of campus and follow the road to the main parking garage.
From Interstate 880, take the Alameda exit. Make a right onto The Alameda and proceed for about one mile. The Leavey Center will come into view on your left. The Alameda veers right into The El Camino Real. Make a left into the main entrance of campus and follow the road to the main parking garage.
From Highway 101, take the De La Cruz Boulevard exit. Follow the signs to Santa Clara, veering to the right at the San Jose/Santa Clara split. Make a right turn on Lafayette. From Lafayette, make a right on the El Camino Real. Follow the El Camino for about one half mile and make a right into the main entrance of campus. Follow the road to the main parking garage.
