Ethics at Noon Series


The Iraq War, wrongful convictions, and the right to wear or not to wear head scarves are among the topics for the 2007-08 Ethics at Noon series. These lunch-hour programs provide a forum for SCU faculty members and other experts to explore ethical issues in many fields. All programs are free and open to the public.

Should Santa Clara University Adopt an Academic Honor Code: A National Expert Speaks on Campus

Lecture

Professor Gary Pavela, Director of Academic Integrity, Syracuse University.  Professor Gary Pavela has worked with major universities in the United States as such campuses have gone from not having an academic honor code to having one. He will be speaking about how SCU can adopt an honor code; what kind of code may make the most sense to adopt; and how to address such concerns related to honor codes like the academic freedom of faculty; faculty worries about time spent involved in cumbersome disciplinary procedures; and faculty worries over reporting requirements.
