New Hackworth Fellows Named

A communications major who spent last summer as a reporter in Africa, a pitcher for the SCU women's softball team, and a leader of SCU's debating team were the three SCU seniors selected as 2006-07 Hackworth Fellows.

Since 2003, the Hackworth Fellowship Program has supported students in promoting ethical reflection and reflective ethical action among their undergraduate peers.

Jessica Silliman, who counts among her achievements interviewing the king of Ghana, will write ethics cases for communications classes.

Accounting major Sara Overmier, voted most inspirational softball player by her teammates in 2005, plans to use the fellowship to sponsor a series of discussions for students about ethics and sports.

Roey Rahmil, a combined political science and philosophy major, intends to continue the work of last year's Hackworth Fellows, two of whom helped Campus Ethics Director David DeCosse to develop a class on ethics and globalization.

The fellowships are supported by a gift from Michael and Joan Hackworth.
