Board Oversight of Compliance and Business Conduct Programs

This panel from the forum "Cutting-Edge Issues in Compliance and Business Conduct" featured three panelists with very different perspectives on the challenges and roles of the board in supporting the ethical and compliance goals of the organizations they direct. Bob Finocchio was both passionate and practical, sharing his views about how the ethics and compliance organization might effectively use the board or the audit committee, and highlighting the danger of outsourcing compliance and ethics. Tony Muller related two very personal experiences regarding the importance of the ethical culture and tone in the company, and how and why the board needed to be involved in maintaining and improving "tone at the top." C.S. Park discussed the recent allegations of corruption involving Samsung in Korea and how that might portend significant changes in the relationships between political and business leaders.
