Troubleshooting Classroom Multimedia Projection Systems

Data Projection

  • Connect VGA cable on podium top to the computer's VGA (monitor) port.
  • Connect the Ethernet cable on podium to PC's Ethernet adaptor (if you want to go online).
  • At the pull-out control panel: Power "on." Select "computer" as the source.
  • Turn on the computer (use toggle function if necessary to see image on both laptop screen and projection screen).

Video Projection

  • At the pull-out control panel: Select "VCR" as the source.
  • Unlock equipment rack with C420A key and insert tape into VCR.
  • Use the controls on the front of the VCR.
  • Adjust volume at pull-out control panel.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • The data projector has a built-in "shutdown" which will turn the projector off after approximately two hours of static input. To prevent this, switch to a different source and back to the original source anytime during the two hours; i.e. from PC to VCR then back to PC.
  • If a projector or panel light is flashing, turn panel off. When projector or panel has stopped flashing, turn panel on again. This should reset both the panel and the projector.
  • No power to the panel--is it plugged in?
  • Can't connect to the network? Make sure your adapter is securely inserted into the ethernet card; that the ethernet cable is inserted into the adapter; and that the data cable is in the data jack (usually the "B" jack). Have you logged onto Novell? If you did not see the log in box as your computer booted up, you are not connected. You cannot add the ethernet adapter after the computer has booted.

Who To Call

For problems or issues with the desktop computer including software or hardware upgrades; network access, please call Aseem Munzni at ext. 4021. For problems with the projection equipment or overhead please call Media Services at ext. 4520. You can call Media Services or the MBA office to get a temporary replacement overhead projector.
