Campus Events Highlights

Literary Cuisine will be presented on Tuesday, May 18, from noon-1 p.m. in the Williman Room, Benson Memorial Center, by Bon Appetit, Barnes & Noble, and Orradre Library.
The work of John Steinbeck will be presented, with a meal associated with his works. The meal will be based on Steinbeck's “Log of the Sea of Cortez.” Cost is $11.50 at the door, and the special guest speaker will be Susan Shillinglaw, director of the Center for Steinbeck Studies at San Jose State University.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) will be the topic of a presentation on May 20, noon to 1:30 p.m. by the Food and Agribusiness Institute, the Center for Science, Technology, and Society, and the Environmental Studies Institute. Avtar Kaul will speak on “GMOs: Salvation or Scourge—Perspectives from the US, Europe, and Developing World” in the Williman Room, Benson Memorial Center.

The annual Workers Appreciation Dinner, sponsored by SCCAP (Santa Clara Community Action Program), will be on May 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Kenna Lawn. It is an opportunity to recognize the staff at Bon Appetit and the facilities department. The de Saisset Museum will feature two events in May. On Thursday, May 20, at 6 p.m., UC Santa Cruz Professor Jennifer Gonzalez will lecture on “Codex Espangliensis—From Columbus to the Border Patrol."  The following Thursday, May 27, also at 6 p.m., the museum will conduct a walkthrough of the exhibitions “Dark Matter: The Art of David Huffman” by Huffman, and at 7 p.m. a walkthrough by artist Enrique Chagoya.
