The Benefits of Giving
The Leavey Challenge is the first participation grant in Santa Clara's history. The $1 million grant will go toward the Santa Clara Fund and its support of current students through scholarships, student research, study abroad, and student-led initiatives, such as on-campus clubs and events.
There are several encouraging signs for SCU's success in the Leavey Challenge by reaching 9,000 undergraduate alumni donors this school year. Santa Clara alumni have given back to the University at increasing rates over the past three years-reaching a record 8,145 alumni donors, or 21.42 percent of all alumni, in 2012.
The $1 million grant will support current students through scholarships, student research, study abroad, and student-led initiatives, such as on-campus clubs and events.
Another good omen comes from the most recent classes of graduates. The class of 2012 also set a new record for giving with an all-time high of 41 percent of seniors donating to the senior gift.
Success in the Leavey Challenge would not only make an enormous difference for current students, but it would also serve as another important milestone for SCU's alumni community.
“Alumni happy with their experience who want to help continue SCU's tradition of quality education can provide tangible evidence of that desire with any amount of financial support,” says Louis Castruccio '60, an SCU trustee and board member of the Leavey Foundation. “It certainly isn't the only form of support, but it is a widely, easily recognizable and important one.”
