The SCU India Advisory Committee Reception
On Friday, April 11th, the SCU India Advisory Committee and the Global Engagement Office hosted a reception to celebrate SCU's connections to India and share the work that has been taking place at the University related to India.
The event was held at the Adobe Lodge and featured music by local tabla (Indian drum) players from the Tabla Niketan Music School. In addition to the live music, there was also a local mehndi (henna) artist, Rachna Bhatt, and a sampling of India-inspired appetizers for guests to enjoy.
The event was a great success with attendace by approximately 50 faculty and staff members across campus. In addition, a number of international students currently studying at SCU and students who either have or plan to study abroad in India joined the group. These students represented experiences of Indian culture from all across the country: with international students coming from Amravati, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Chandigarh and SCU students traveling to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Bangalore.
The evening in celebration of South Asian culture continued with Intandesh's 28th annual culture show, Rangeeli Shaam: Kal Aaj Aur Kal. The show was performed in Mayer Theater. This year's theme was past, present, and future.
The show involved a skit addressing the struggles of assimilating into Western culture; traditional, as well as modern, dances; and a fashion show - all student directed, produced, and performed. For more information: http://www.scu.edu/globalengagement/Events.cfm?event=31590&sched=72625
