LEAD Scholars Program

LEAD Scholars Orientation

To support first-generation college students, it is important to introduce their families to the college experience. This SCU’s New Student Orientation provides an opportunity for students and their families to learn about SCU campus from current students, professors and staff. The orientation also provides an opportunity for students to learn about campus resources, the student community and register for classes.

First year LEAD Scholars are asked to attend New Student Orientation session 4 or session 5. While attendance at sessions 4 or 5 are strongly preferred they are not required. Incoming LEAD Scholars will participate in all of the orientation activities with other incoming freshman. In addition there are LEAD Scholar informational sessions for participants and a dinner for students and parents. If you are attending sessions 1, 2, 3 or 6, a LEAD Scholars Program staff member will talk with you individually about the LEAD Scholars Program.

Transfer students should plan to attend Transfer Orientation on the Friday before the academic year begins.

Please click here to learn more about New Student or Transfer Orientation. If you are a first year LEAD Scholar and would like to register for or change your orientation session to 4 or 5, please email the New Student Orientation office at or 408-551-1995. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate students who are planning to attend orientation sesssion 7 since it conflicts with LEAD Week.

If you are a Pell Grant recipient, the New Student Orientation office is able to offer complimentary registration to the incoming students and one family member. Please contact them for more information.
