Coordinators Profiles

Miguel de los Santos

Going on the Bordelinks immersion trip helped further my education on immigration and immigration issues and it made me appreciate my parents and their sacrifice. Growing up, I would randomly ask my parents about their experience coming to the U.S. However, I did not actually understand their struggles and had a hard time envisioning what they were talking about. Going on this trip, meeting others with similar experiences as my parents, and talking to a number of organizations helped me realize the hardships my parents went through to get here. I also realized the struggles and sacrifices that they and many more families make in order to better their lives. On this trip I became more aware of the complexity of immigration, but more than that it made me appreciate and respect my parents so much more.
