In this lecture, Paul Coutinho, S.J., author of How Big Is Your God? The Freedom to Experience the Divine and An Ignatian Pathway: Experiencing the Mystical Dimension of the Spiritual Exercises, reflected on his own personal experience and writing of living and adapting the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, and Ignatian Spirituality more broadly in a multi-religious context.

The Lecturer:

coutinhoFr. Paul Coutinho, S.J. is an internationally recognized Ignatian scholar and speaker, who brings an Eastern flavour to Western spirituality. He is a Jesuit from India whose love for Ignatian Spirituality is reflected in everything he does. He has shared his knowledge and experience of Saint Ignatius in various parts of the world through retreats, workshops, seminars, keynote speeches, his books and other writings.  He was also the Director of Ignatian Spirituality for South Asia and the Editor of Ignis: South Asian Journal of Ignatian Spirituality (1996-2009).

Paul has earned two Masters Degrees in Clinical Psychology and Religious Studies. He has a Ph.D. in Historical Theology from Saint Louis University, USA, focused on Ignatian Spirituality. Presently, Paul is at Saint Louis University as faculty member of the School for Professional Studies and serving as the Assistant for Mission Formation in the Division of Mission and Ministry. He is also on the Advisory Board of the Review for Religious and on the Editorial Advisory Council of Liturgical Press.

His publications include: The Ignatian Ideal and Jesuit Reality (Gujarat Sahitya Press, India, 1999), How Big Is Your God? The Freedom to Experience the Divine (Loyola Press, 2007), Just as You Are: Opening your Life to the Infinite Love of God (Loyola Press, 2009), and An Ignatian Pathway: Experiencing the Mystical Dimension of the Spiritual Exercises (Loyola Press, 2011).  He resides in St. Louis and divides his time between India and the United States.
