In this facilitated panel, three participants from the 2010 Mexico City Conference,
César Arjona Sebastiá (Law Professor, ESADE: Universitat Ramon Llull, Barcelona),
Paul Crowley, S.J. (Chair and Professor, Religious Studies Department, Santa Clara University) and
Ron Hansen (Gerard Manley Hopkins S.J. Professor, English Department, Santa Clara University) shared their experiences from the conference and reflected together on Fr. Nicolás’ charge to re-found and renew the mission of Jesuit colleges and universities with depth and imagination today. The panel was moderated by Godfrey Mungal, Dean of the School of Engineering, Santa Clara University.

César Arjona Sebastiá:
César Arjona
is professor at ESADE Law School, in Barcelona, where he holds his law degree (1999). He earned his LL.M. with honours at the European Academy of Legal Theory (Brussels, 2000); and his JSD at Cornell University (NY, USA, 2004) with a thesis on North American legal thought supervised by Professor Robert Summers. His academic career has been conducted in the field of philosophy of law, from which he also approaches socio-legal studies and professional ethics (both legal and business-oriented). At ESADE, his main activities are carried out at the Law School and he also collaborates with the Department of Social Sciences at the Business School. He teaches philosophy of law, legal reasoning, professional ethics and social thought on various Law and Business programmes at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has been Visiting Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), ICADE (Madrid), the Center for Transnational Legal Studies (London - Georgetown) and Bucerius Law School (Hamburg). He has several academic publications in English and Spanish (among them, he has edited and translated into Spanish the dissenting votes of Justice O. W. Holmes).
Paul Crowley, S.J.
Paul Crowley, S.J. is Chair and the Santa Clara Jesuit Community Professor in the Religious Studies Department. He earned his B.A. with honors in Political and Legal Philosophy from Stanford, an M.A. in the Philosophy of Religion from Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary in New York, and an S.T.L. from the Jesuit School of Theology. He took his Ph.D. in Philosophical Theology from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, followed by post-graduate studies at the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies in Toronto. A fellow at the Jesuit Institute of Boston College in 1996-97, he was also Visiting Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 2001-2003. He will serve as Visiting Professor in Religious Studies at Stanford in Spring 2011.
Ron Hansen:
Ron Hansen is the Gerard Manley Hopkins, S.J. Professor in the Arts and Humanities in the English Department at Santa Clara University. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska and educated at Creighton University, the University of Iowa’s Writers Workshop, and at Stanford University, where he held a Wallace Stegner Creative Writing Fellowship. He has received fellowships from the Michigan Society of Fellows, the National Endowment for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and the Lyndhurst Foundation, and was presented with an Award in Literature from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. Professor Hansen has taught fiction and screenwriting at such institutions as Stanford, Michigan, Cornell, Iowa, Arizona.
