The Bannan Institute seeks to promote the Catholic identity and Jesuit mission of the University as a part of the larger Ignatian Center. Offerings include Bannan Grants, explore journal, Bannan Visitors, Bannan Fellowships, Santa Clara Lectures, Bannan Retreats, a series of Justice Conferences, Western Conversations, and more.

Bannan Grants up to $5,000 each are designed to fund scholarly and pedagogical efforts by Santa Clara faculty, staff, and students, which also further the mission of the Institute.

Visitors come to Santa Clara for a brief period to engage the campus community on issues and activities that support its Jesuit and Catholic character. They may instruct classes, present their research to faculty and students, arrange exhibits or performances, bring their spiritual or practical expertise to the campus community, provide resources for student organizations, and help faculty and staff through retreats and workshops.

The Ignatian Faculty Forum annually convenes small groups of committed faculty to explore, discuss, and engage the intersection of Ignatian spirituality and the life of the scholar-teacher.

In these reflection groups we wish to create a space for staff members to share reflections upon their work life here at Santa Clara University. Through discussion of our own personal lived experience we wish to discover and claim the ways in which our work is integrated into the mission of the university. Staff members may nominate themselves for participation with permission of their supervisors. Participation opens September by self selection.

The Faculty/Staff El Salvador Immersion offers the unique opportunity to experience a country with a rich cultural history and to positively impact the lives of those who are less fortunate.

The Ignatian Center is committed to supporting Santa Clara University student, faculty and staff efforts that contribute to building a more humane, just, faith-filled, sustainable world, especially for those with the least access to education, power, and wealth. The Center has a very limited amount of funding available through the Special Projects Support to support these efforts.

Each fall, six western Jesuit universities sponsor a conference called “Western Conversations in Jesuit Higher Education” bringing faculty delegates together for in-depth discussions on important topics related to the Jesuit Catholic educational mission. Participating institutions include Gonzaga University, Loyola Marymount University, Regis University, Santa Clara University, Seattle University, and the University of San Francisco.
