Marta Langland

I have been most largely involved at SCU with SCCAP (Santa Clara Community Action Program) as a Program Coordinator for ESL at the Mountain View Day Worker Center, the Environmental Studies Institute through an Environmental Vocation Internship working with community food security and farm worker justice, as well as being a research assistant for the Environmental Studies Institute studying environmental racism issues in Santa Clara county.

In 2007 I was given the opportunity to be a CRS/SCU intern in El Salvador.I was able to take a look at the many projects CRS supports and how they are functioning to improve the lives of those in the country that need it most.I spent time experiencing projects that aided with agribusiness and sustainable agriculture, a coffee farm, women's HIV/AIDS support groups, the CRS peace school, human rights activism, environmental stewardship, youth groups, and a variety of others.I became close with many of the communities and learned so much from those working hard for the betterment of Salvadoran society.

The CRS internship has allowed me to understand El Salvador in a much deeper and comprehensive way than I ever would have been able to without this experience

The time I spent with CRS in El Salvador has had a huge influence on my life's path and what I want to continue pursuing.I think about my experience with CRS daily and still believe it to be the time in my life when I learned the very most about El Salvador and about what truly matters in life.
