Alexandra "Allie" Dunne, Intern 08-09

Gardner Community Center

Major(s): Individual Studies/Global Cultural Studies, Class of 2009

“Since starting my internship in September, I really feel like I am beginning to understand the demographics that Gardner Community Center serves.  I have really enjoyed getting to know both the staff and the seniors that come daily and are a part of the nutrition program.  Every day I am greeted with warm smiles and stories that give me insight into the lives of the people I am honored to spend time with.  I continue to learn about the needs of seniors, especially those of lower socio-economic backgrounds.  My internship has also provided me with great insight into how the City of San Jose operates in better understanding of the world of non-profit and the enormous challenges that arise from small budgets and big dreams.  Overall, I have found, and continue to find, my time at Gardner Center valuable and meaningful”
