Helpful Hints
I heard about the Jean Donovan Summer Fellowship, and I want to have a community-based learning experience this summer, but
how do I find which program is best for me? If you don't have a program in mind, there are many resources that can help you. But before you start looking, try to determine:
- What you would like to do
- What age group or whom you would like to work with
- Where you might like to work
- How much time you would be able to commit to volunteering
- How much money you are willing to spend and if you can afford to do a volunteer program with no monetary gain
Once you've answered these questions, there a many places you can go to find a program that matches your interests: Talk to family, friends and professors. They might know of a great program or someone to get in touch with that could give you more information.
Other Resources:
- Look through the CONNECTIONS 2008, which is a directory of national and international programs.
- Look through RESPONSE, which is an on-line directory of faith-based national and international volunteer opportunities.
- There are many different programs that like students to work with them for a few weeks or months during the summer.
