Chief Information Officer

Ron DanielsonRon Danielson, Associate Professor of Computer Engineering, was appointed Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the University, effective July 1, 2000.

The CIO is responsible for providing leadership for the Information Services division of the University, which includes the Orradre Library, Information Technology, and Media Services, in meeting the University's information services needs and responding creatively to one of the most challenging questions posed by our Strategic Plan: "How can Santa Clara excel in the use of technology and information resources to enhance teaching and learning, support scholarship, and improve service and productivity?". The CIO reports directly to the Provost, with a dotted line relationship to the President, and has full access to the Provost's Council and the President's Cabinet.

Ron brings rich experience as a teacher, scholar, and administrator to this position. A faculty member at Santa Clara since 1976, he served as Director of Information Systems from 1984 to 1990, leading the University's computing and communications functions through a period of rapid growth and successfully integrating four separate technology units into a single organization. From 1990 to 1992, he served as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, adding several other areas to his previous responsibilities. Ron completed a three-year term as Director of the University Core Curriculum. In addition to his Santa Clara positions, Ron has been a visiting faculty member at the Lund Institute of Technology (Sweden) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
