Introduction
Are you interested in completing your preparation for a scholarly career in service to the Church? Would you like to write your doctoral dissertation in Old Testament, New Testament, Systematic Theology, or Ethics? The Doctor of Sacred Theology is the highest Roman Catholic ecclesiastical degree in advanced theological study. It is offered to students who have completed the Licentiate in Sacred Theology or the Licentiate in Sacred Scripture. This program enables students to develop scholarly research skills and theological expertise; facilitates a critical awareness of the interplay between faith and culture; and prepares candidates to address theological and pastoral matters that emerge in the rich diversity of the church of the 21st century.
Prerequisites
- A completed Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) or a completed Licentiate in Sacred Scripture (S.S.L.) with a minimum grade point average of 3.7.
- Proficiency in one modern language suitable for theological research other than the applicant's native tongue. **In addition, candidates who intend to specialize in Biblical Studies must show proficiency in one Biblical language.
- A major research paper from the STL or SSL program, which demonstrates your research and writing abilities.
