Integration with SCU
|
As of July 1, 2009, the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley has become integrated as a school of Santa Clara University. Under the new arrangement, JST will remain in Berkeley as a member of the Graduate Theological Union, and will be known as the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University. Degrees granted by JST eventually will bear that name. With the integration of JST into the university, JST students will have access to the breadth of Santa Clara's resources in religious studies and other disciplines, and SCU faculty will benefit from a relationship with theologians at JST. The new collaboration between the two Bay Area Jesuit institutions of higher education will enable each to draw upon the academic and theological strengths of the other. This partnership solidifies and fortifies SCU and JST in their shared goal of engaging in a reverent and critical study of the faith that does justice. JST’s principal and overarching strategic goal is to become a more effective national and international center for the culturally contextual study of theology and formation for ministry. Through the shared religious and pedagogical riches of the 475-year Ignatian tradition, the Jesuit School of Theology and Santa Clara University believe this new partnership will ensure quality education and formation for tomorrow’s Jesuits, religious women, diocesan priests and Catholic lay ministers.
